Whatever you write on your skin appears on the skin of your soulmate.
—
Choi Eunji POV:
I had always loved the idea of a soulmate. Having someone the universe picked out just for you. It almost sounded too good to be true when I was younger. I didn’t believe soulmates actually existed until I saw my mother write on her arm and it appeared on my father’s arm on the same spot. My parents were very in love and cherished the idea of a soulmate.
…
One day, when I was 7, my older sister came home from high school with a few words on her arm. When she went to tell our parents, they were ecstatic. They immediately bought her a pack of skin markers, specially designed to not harm the skin and for soulmate communication. They also ended up getting me my own skin markers. Ever since that day, I have been using them on my arms in hopes that my soulmate could see them. I draw well, and on my arms, you can see my doodles. I don’t know why but I always signed them as well with my own signature.
…
When I was in 8th grade, the first note from my soulmate appeared on my skin. They had written a note to themselves to go shopping later. It was only a few simple words, but it made me beyond happy because it meant I was closer to meeting whoever my soulmate was. That day I ended up covering the entirety of both my arms in doodles in excitement. And, of course, I made sure to include my signature, right on my wrist.
…
Over the years, my soulmate had left many notes on his arms. There were shopping lists, reminders about dance practice, and one time I even found ‘I am worldwide handsome’ written on my leg in large messy handwriting. It seemed to be a prank by one of his friends and was very odd. However, the one-note I treasure the most was when he wrote on my palm, “Your drawings are very nice, I wish I could see more.” It gave me confidence knowing someone out there liked my drawing style. I had the courage to post my clothing designs on Instagram. Maybe I secretly hoped that my soulmate would somehow see the occasional arm doodle posted and try and find me. After a while of posting my drawings, I was able to gain quite a following.
Jin POV
When I first started getting my soul mate’s drawings on my arms, I was too scared to write anything back. Their drawings were just so good. I didn’t want to disappoint them with my crude scribbles. I just ended up writing down the usual notes to myself. I wish I could talk to them, but the bond doesn’t allow for the sharing of personal information. How dumb is that? It makes it even harder to find your soulmate. Even still, most everyone meets their soulmate. Looking at her drawings was like looking into an entirely different universe. Each doodle was a galaxy of colors and incredibly detailed. One thing she always wrote along with her drawings was what I assume is her signature. It was always in the same place, her wrist. It clearly wasn’t her real name, as the bond wouldn’t have allowed that, but it was better than knowing absolutely nothing about her.
Eunji POV:
After graduating from high school, I decided to go to college and study fashion and designing. I had always wanted to be a designer and gained confidence from the feedback on my Instagram. I was in my final year now and needed to start looking for a job. I wanted to apply for something in a different country. It’d always been my dream to live abroad after studying. The US is nice and all, but I wanted to explore a different country. Maybe Korea? I know my parents were from there, but despite knowing the language and being decently fluent, I’ve never been. Maybe that’s why I haven’t been able to find my soulmate. He might be in Korea since that’s where my roots are.
I guess I can put out a post on my Instagram asking my followers for suggestions on companies to apply for there. I also finally get in contact with my grandparents to ask if I could stay there if I do get the job.
After a week, I went back to check my Instagram. I had many different suggestions, but one stood out to me. BigHit Entertainment. I… don’t really know why. It’s not like it was suggested more than other companies. There’s just this…feeling in the back of my head. I decided I would keep BigHit as my primary choice and also apply to a few others. I finished creating my resume and by the end of the day, I had submitted my applications. Now, all I had to do was wait.
Jin POV:
After practice that day, I decided to stay at the company and see some old friends. It’d been a while since I’d seen them. I sent the rest back home for lunch, which I had already made and kept in the fridge. I told them to just microwave it and eat it.
Once they had left, I headed over to the fashion department. When I got there, I headed over to the studio of my favorite designer. He was the first friend I had made when I came to the company. I couldn’t really relate to the other trainees, they all had backgrounds in music and dance. I just got scouted off the street. I eventually got to know them and we became as close as we are now, but before the world knew us as BTS, we were complete strangers.
I turned into the studio and saw Hojun at his desk. “Hey Hojun, what’s up?”
“Nothing much,” he replied, “I’m just a bit stressed. How about you?”
“Ah, just the usual. Why are you stressed?”
“You know how you guys have your comeback soon? Well, you’ll be promoting, which means a lot of performances and shows. That means the design teams going to be working extra hard for your outfits. Unfortunately, one of the girls just quit. She was supposed to be your stylist this time. We have to hire someone else, and it’s my job to go through the applications. I’m just having a hard time deciding which one to take.”
“You said the designer was for me, right? Why don’t I help you go through the applicants?”
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m sure you must have things to do today. I don’t want to take up your time. I bet you’re tired from preparing for the comeback.”
“No hyung, I insist. I have the day off today. Let me help you, please.”
“Ok, fine. Hopefully, we can narrow down the candidates in a few hours. “
…
An hour had passed and not one of the applicants had caught Seokjin’s eye. To him, they had a typical style, not fit for an idol. Not to say they were bad, but to design clothing for an idol, there was an extra bit of creativity necessary. Idols have to stand out on stage, catch the eyes of audience members.
Suddenly, something caught his eye from about midway through the stack of resumes. He quickly fished it out to inspect it. On the resume was a picture of a young girl; she looked about his age.
Choi Eunji. Why does it sound familiar?
He flipped through her resume, looking for whatever had caught his eye.
There!
A signature was printed in black ink on the corner of the page. He stared at it for a second before it clicked.
Soulmate! This was the marking she always drew on her arm!
“Hyung!” Seokjin called out, startling Hojun.”I think I’ve found the one.”
“Let me see.”
Seokjin passed the resume over to Hojun. As Hojun was looking over it, he commented, “Oh, this one’s nice. She’s young but seems really talented. Since sh’s from America, it would be helpful to have her on the team. She could help your styling also appeal to the more western audience.”
“Wow hyung, you have such solid reasoning to back her up as your choice.”
“Of course, I do. Isn’t that why you picked her as well?”
“About that, I kind of have another reason for picking her…”
“Which is?”
“Well, she’s kind of… my soulmate.”
“Actually?! Look at you! Finally finding your soulmate. I know how long you’ve been waiting.”
“Thanks, hyung.”
“Well, we should definitely hire her now. It’s good that she seems so qualified. Just one question–how are you planning on telling her that you’re soulmates?”
Jin’s face sunk. He hadn’t actually thought that far ahead. How was he going to do it?
